Xfinity, a subsidiary of Comcast, recently experienced a data breach that affected over 35 million people.

A security breach occurred, leading to the unauthorized access and theft of customer information such as usernames, passwords, contact details, and partial Social Security numbers. The breach was linked back to a security vulnerability in software from the cloud computing company Citrix, which is used by Xfinity. Citrix published information about the vulnerability on October 10th.

Xfinity has confirmed the successful patching of the vulnerability. However, following the patch, the company detected suspicious activity within its internal systems, attributing it to the previously addressed vulnerability.

If you are an Xfinity customer, we recommend that you take the following actions to protect your account:

    1. Reset your password: Xfinity is requiring customers to reset their passwords to protect affected accounts.

Use Trend Micro ID Protection to help you generate a strong password or check if your new one is strong enough.

    2. Enable 2FA: Xfinity strongly suggests that you add an extra layer of protection to your account by turning on two-factor authentication. It’s a smart move to keep your account secure.

    3. Monitor the dark web: Xfinity advises customers not to re-use passwords across multiple accounts. If you use the same username and password or security question for other accounts, change your passwords for those accounts as well.

Use ID Protection and we’ll check the internet and dark web for lots of your personal info, including your email address.

If you need more information about the data breach, including contact information for Xfinity’s incident response team, you can find the full notice on Xfinity’s website.
