Have you got kids that are back at school this year? Maybe it’s your first time as a parent and you aren’t sure what to do? Use these tips to keep your kids safe this school year.

    1. Update your security software

Make your devices are equipped with the latest security software. Keep your software up-to-date to stay protected from viruses, malware, ransomware, and other online threats.

2.Turn on Automatic Updates for all your devices

Hackers are always on the lookout for loopholes in software to compromise your devices security. Updating your devices software patches these security loopholes and keeps your kids safe from the latest threats. Turn on automatic updates so you can let the device update itself.

3.Teach your kids about online safety

Online attacks like phishing and scams are becoming more common each year. It’s important to teach your kids how to recognise these attacks by spotting fake messages or links and never sharing personal info. Remind them to always verify sources and stay cautious online.

    4.Use parental controls

You can use parental controls to limit the usage of your kids’ personal devices to specific times or functions. For example: only educational apps during homework hours or allow extra screen time when they’ve completed study goals. Make sure you’ve password protected the parental controls so your kids cannot bypass them.

5.Show your kids how to make strong, memorable passwords

Teach your kids how to make strong passwords with passphrases. They combine 2-4 random words with numbers, symbols and uppercase letters. Passphrases can include favourite hobbies, colours, or anything that your child may like to help them remember their password. For example: “PandaRocket!Guitar3” or “BlueSoccer!3”. Make sure your passwords are at least 12 characters long.

We hope these safety tips have given you a good idea on how to keep your kids safe and productive at school!
