How Oregon Toll Services Scam Works

    • Scammers create a sense of urgency, warning you of late fees or penalties if you don’t pay promptly.
    • If you do as instructed and click on the link, you will be led to a phishing website where you will be asked to provide personal and financial information, such as your driver’s license number, credit card details, or other sensitive data.
    • Scammers can then exploit your stolen data for other cybercrime; for example, they can establish new fraudulent accounts or file for bogus tax returns using YOUR identity.

In fact, toll road payment scams have been circulating in the United States for a while. According to IC3, they’ve received more than 2,000 complaints about fake notifications impersonating road toll collection services within a month. We’ve also reported on several phishing attempts related to such fake toll service texts. Stay alert!
