Cyber threats aren’t rare anymore; they’re part of everyday life. It’s Cyber Security Awareness Month, a timely reminder to take action now and protect your devices, data, and accounts from potential risks.
Tips to Stay Safe Online
Keep Devices Safe with Updates
Install software updates as soon as they’re available. Updates fix security flaws hackers exploit, while also improving performance. Skipping them leaves doors open for attackers. Click here to find the steps on how to update software on each device.
Create Strong Passphrases
Your passphrase is the first line of defense. Make it long, unique, and complex. Avoid reusing the same across accounts.
Not sure if your passphrase is secure? Use the Trend Micro Password Check to test its strength. If your passphrase is flagged as weak, change it right away.
Add Extra Protection with 2FA
2FA adds a second lock on your accounts by requiring a one-time code. Authenticator apps like Google Authenticator or Authy are the most secure, but SMS or email codes also work.
Use Secure Wi-Fi
Avoid logging into accounts or making purchases on public Wi-Fi without a VPN. Hackers can easily intercept data on unsecured networks. At home, protect your Wi-Fi with a strong password and ensure your router has the latest updates.
Clean Up Old Accounts
Unused accounts are often less secure and more vulnerable to breaches. Delete accounts you no longer use, and update security settings on the ones you keep.
