July saw a string of significant data breaches affecting well-known names across retail, aviation, and politics. Louis Vuitton, Qantas, and the United Australia Party were each targeted, highlighting how widespread and persistent data breaches have become. Read on for all the latest.
Louis Vuitton Breach Hits Customers
Louis Vuitton confirmed on July 2, 2025, that an unauthorised third party accessed internal systems affecting customers across Australia and other markets, including Hong Kong, South Korea, Turkey, the UK, Italy, and Sweden.
The breach exposed a broad range of personal information: full names, gender, country of residence, postal addresses, email addresses, phone numbers, date of birth, purchase history, and in some cases passport numbers—a particularly sensitive detail that increases identity risks.
Louis Vuitton affirmed that no passwords, credit card, or bank details were compromised. Technical measures were taken promptly to block the attacker and contain the incident, and regulatory authorities in Australia and overseas were notified.
If you have shopped with Louis Vuitton:
- Be cautious of unsolicited emails, calls, or texts—particularly those referencing personal data or requesting further details.
- Given the inclusion of passport numbers, consider renewing your passport proactively if advised by identity-verification authorities.
- Monitor your credit report, financial statements, and personal accounts for suspicious activity.
Qantas Customer Data Compromised
Between 30 June and 2 July 2025, Qantas suffered a cyber-attack via a third-party contact centre system based in Manila. The breach affected approximately 5.7 million unique customer records.
Most of the impacted data included names, email addresses, and frequent flyer details. For around 1.7 million customers, additional information such as addresses, dates of birth, phone numbers and gender were also accessed. Importantly, no passwords, credit card details, or passport information were compromised. Qantas isolated the system and have contacted affected customers with details of what was exposed.
What to do if your data has been compromised:
- The airline is emailing affected customers and has set up a dedicated support line at 1800 971 541
- Be careful with emails and phone calls. Scammers often contact people after breaches. Don’t click on links in suspicious emails or give out personal information.
- Check your frequent flyer points balance. Since frequent flyers numbers were leaked, scammers may try to use this to claim rewards or other redemptions.
United Australia Party Breach Exposes Emails and Identity Documents
The United Australia Party and its affiliate, Trumpet of Patriots, were hit by a ransomware attack that compromised internal servers.
The breach revealed a large volume of sensitive data, including emails (with attachments), identity documents, banking details, phone numbers, employment records, and confidential submissions.
The party stated it was unable to confirm exactly whose data was accessed and deemed individual notifications impracticable, citing a lack of records.
If you’ve interacted with either party:
- Review what personal data you may have shared.
- Monitor financial accounts.
- Change passwords and enable multi-factor authentication.
- Watch for phishing or impersonation attempts.
How Can I Keep My Data Safe?
- Use strong, unique passwords. Avoid reusing passwords and combine letters, numbers, and special characters.
- Enable two-factor authentication (2FA). Add an extra layer of security by requiring a second verification step.
- Monitor your accounts. Regularly check bank and credit card statements for suspicious activity.
- Update software regularly. Keep devices and software up to date with the latest security patches.
- Be cautious with personal information. Carefully consider what information you share online and with whom
- Use security software such as Trend Micro Security Suite Pro Plus to help keep your identity secure.
