Over the past month, several high-profile data breach incidents have reminded us of the importance of safeguarding personal information. Here’s a summary:

    Disney Data Breach

A Hacktivist group recently announced a data breach related to Disney. The group claims to have discovered 1.2 terabytes of communication data from internal channels. Disney has not yet provided a confirmation but are currently investigating the incident. The leaked data reportedly contains project details, technical information, and raw images.

    Pinterest Data Breach

Pinterest, the image sharing platform with over 500 million active users, may have suffered a potential data leak. Hackers claim to have captured 6 million database records — containing 60 million rows of data including email addresses, usernames, user IDs, IP addresses and more.

    Trello Data Breach

The project management tool, Trello, has suffered a data breach due to unsecured API endpoints providing unauthorized access to hackers. Although the data was extracted in January 2024, the hackers have just recently dumped the data online (07/16), containing usernames, full names, profile URLs, and more.

After the discovery of the API vulnerability, Atlassian has updated the API to prevent misuse by hackers. There has not been an official response to the breach incident.

Change Healthcare and CDK Global Breach

Major software provider, CDK Global, and leading health care company, Change Healthcare, have suffered a major ransomware attack resulting in disruption to several services. CDK reportedly paid $25 million and Change Healthcare $22 million to the ransomware group.

    Giant Password Leak Announced

Researchers recently discovered a password compilation of over 10 billion passwords from new and old data breaches. Experts claim that the compilation isn’t a great threat as most of its data is unusable. Nonetheless, it is recommended to regularly update passwords and use 2FA/MFA where possible.
